TrailerSafe®
Sensor System
TrailerSafe is compatible with the entire range
of Fontaine Fifthwheels, including Low Maintenance, Dual Height
and Slider. The system is effective with all trailers and no equipment
is required on the trailer itself. Both steel and aluminium rubbing
plates are detectable and operation of the system is unaffected
by steering wedges.
Although it does not remove any of the driver's
obligations, it will aid drivers by providing confirmation of
successful coupling of truck and trailer, additionally, TrailerSafe®
continuously monitors the connection between the tractor unit
and the trailer and will alert the driver in the event of a problem
with the coupling.
A feature of particular importance is TrailerSafe's®
'IntelligentStart'® which is activated every time the truck is
started. During the IntelligentStart® the system immediately checks
the operation of the system itself and the integrity of the sensors
- this is communicated to the driver by a series of lights and
a confirmation sounder - the system then verifies the status of
any trailer that maybe hitched and will alarm if the fifthwheel
has been tampered with leaving the fifthwheel open and in an unlocked
state.
A more detailed description of the alarm states
is available upon request.
How It Works
TrailerSafe® employs 3 inductive proximity sensors
positioned on the fifthwheel. Sensor No. 1 detects the presence
of the trailer and signals should the tractor unit loose contact
with the trailer during the coupling procedure. The second sensor
is activated by the king pin locating correctly in the jaw. The
third sensor detects the correct location of the locking wedge
by detecting the position of the release handle.
The system gives an audio visual alarm should correct
coupling fail to take place or if the locking mechanism is tampered
with.
