SliderSafe®
Sensor System
Fifthwheel sliders are used to allow better access
between the cab and the trailer to access the electric and pneumatic
services. In the open position, a truck/trailer combination could
be over length or the weight distribution could make the un-roadworthy.
The unique SliderSafeŽ has been
developed to work towards eliminating the possibility of a driver
taking a truck on to the road with the fifthwheel in the wrong
position on the slider. This has real benefits to fleet operators
by significantly reducing the likelihood of incurring fines for
over-length or incorrect axle weight distribution infringements.
How It Works
SliderSafeŽ inhibits engine speed
whenever the fifthwheel is in the incorrect position. The system
is very simple and links, by way of an inductive proximity sensor,
the slider to the truck's engine management system. This allows
the truck to be driven at low speed - 20 kph - for example, around
a shutting yard to load and off load trailers but would make it
all but impossible to mistakenly take the truck onto the open
road.
